Assefe Kebede was born in Ethiopia. After attending high school and then University for two years in Ethiopia, he left his country for political reasons and went to Kenya. Assefa came to Canada in February 1977. He began to work and study at the University British Columbia where he earned himself a bachelor degree in Agricultural Sciences.
The very first food business that Assefa opened was by catering numerous festivals in Vancouver. After a successful start, he opened the first Ethiopian restaurant in Vancouver in 1988. Over the years Assefa attended cooking seminars and taught cooking classes in community centers and on several occasions appeared on culinary television shows.
Not only is Assefa Kebede an excellent chef, he is also a master potter, making beautiful clay pots and sculptures. His passion in pottery led him to participate in the recent international pottery workshop in Santiago de Cuba this spring.
Assefa’s pursuit for his passion for cooking and art has made him one of the most unique and admirable restaurant owners in Vancouver. Married and with three children, Assefa undoubtedly attributes most of his success to his supportive family.

Andrea Potter is the head chef at Radha Yoga and Eatery, which features a feast of beautiful vegan and raw foods made from local, organic ingredients. Andrea is a certified chef with a background in fine dining. She is also a holistic nutritionist. As Radha’s head chef, she uses local and organic ingredients to translate classical flavours into innovative vegan creations. Andrea is passionate about food culture and the benefits of whole foods.

Aaron Ash is the owner of vegan raw food service, Gorilla Food.
Aaron has been interested in the peaceful aspects of vegan and organic foods for about 12 years and founded Gorilla Food, a growing organic vegan raw food service in downtown Vancouver. He is passionate about creatively and consciously providing raw, organic, vegan, live foods to people who care for themselves and the world we live in. Living foods = Life!

Cesar De La Parra is the executive chef at Nuba Restaurant.
After working for award winning restaurants in Mexico City and a three Michelin Star restaurant in San Sebastian in Spain, Cesar arrived in Vancouver. He took the helm was executive chef at Nuba, which specializes in creating innovative and traditional Lebanese style vegan food.
